Wir helfen unserem Wald

The Arnsberg Forest Nature Park, which covers around 600 km², is one of the largest contiguous forest areas in Germany and the Rüthen municipal forest is a large part of it.

Global climate change is now also showing its devastating consequences here:

  • Storms, hot spells and the main pest, the bark beetle, have caused massive damage to our forest. Almost 2000 hectares, mainly spruce, have already died!
  • The diverse functions such as protection, recreation and use are severely endangered.
  • The forest as a "green lung", CO2 and water reservoir can hardly unfold its positive effects.
  • For many animal, plant and fungal species, our forest is the habitat that provides them with food, shelter and protection. This sensitive ecosystem is being seriously unbalanced.

For a donation of €10, 10 square meters of forest will be reforested with the tree species mentioned!

The amount of the donation is up to you!

A donation receipt according to: § 52 ABS. 2 Nr. 8 AO can be issued by the town of Rüthen.

How can I donate?

Donations of up to €200 can be claimed from the tax office via the bank statement.

We will also be happy to send you a donation receipt on request!

Which trees will be planted?

The following tree species will be planted by the municipal forestry department:

Sweet chestnut / red oak / copper beech / sessile oak / robinia and small-leaved lime

Here is some information on individual tree species:

Sweet chestnut: (Castanea sativa)

The sweet chestnut (Castanea sativa), also known as chestnut, sweet chestnut, edible chestnut, etc., originally comes from Asia Minor. It is not only used successfully in silviculture, but is also valued for its extremely nutritious, tasty and storable fruit.
The wood of the sweet chestnut is very valuable. It is used for furniture production, barrel making and shipbuilding, for example, as it is largely resistant to moisture and rot. The flowers are also valued as bee pasture.
It is a deciduous tree that reaches a height of up to 30 m and forms a wide-spreading crown. It can reach an age of over 1,000 years.

European beech (Fagus sylvatica)

The copper beech accounts for 14 % of the forest area in Germany. For this reason, and because it loosens and improves the soil with its roots and foliage, it is also known as "the mother of the forest".
The beech can grow up to 30 m high, in dense forests even up to 45 m. The trunk diameter can reach up to 2 m in the open and can live up to 300 years. Beech is an important tree species for near-natural forestry. With targeted care and in a mixture with other tree species, particularly diverse and multi-layered stands are possible.

Black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia)

The common robinia (Robinia pseudoacacia) is a tree that is originally native to Atlantic North America.
Today, the common robinia is cultivated in a wide range of locations. The wood, which is resistant to wood rot, is both flexible and strong and is used in shipbuilding and furniture construction, as pit wood and as sleeper timber. It is considered to be more resistant and durable than oak. As the wood's properties make it an alternative to tropical woods, its use is currently being further promoted.
The robinia is a deciduous tree with a rounded or loosely umbrella-shaped crown, which can reach heights of 12 to 20 m in the open and 20 to 30 m in closed forest stands.

Where to plant:

In Bibertal southwest of Bibertalstrasse, there is an area of approx. 0.7 hectares that has been destroyed by the bark beetle. This will be reforested with the aforementioned tree species. The area is immediately visible from the road.

Further areas are planned!
