The historic town hall was built in the years 1726-1730 by the master builder Michael Spanner, who came from Erwitte, in the baroque style.

The centuries-old constitutional history of the town of Rüthen is reflected in the sprung gable and the spatial structure of the upper storey, dominated by the stylish council chamber, which is accessed from the forecourt by an unusual two-flight round-arched staircase made of Rüthen green sandstone.
